If you ever see the word “Chronomatic” on the dial of a Heuer chronograph offered for sale (at a reasonable price), (1) BUY THE WATCH, and then (2) READ THIS BLOG POSTING to see exactly what you have bagged!!
Vintage Heuer Black PVD Monaco — subject of posting on Christie’s watch blog, Longtiude. Nice coverageof one of the vintage Heuer grails.
This Monaco was actually worn by Steve McQueen, in the production of the movie Le Mans (1970), and is being sold in an auction of Hollywood memorabilia, this coming Tuesday, July 31st.

With or without the McQueen provenance, it is an amazing example of a “time capsule” Heuer Monaco.
Here’s a new posting covering one of the four known Heuer Monacos that was actually worn by Steve McQueen — Heuer Monaco, Worn by McQueen — Part Three.
Coming soon, Part Two!!
The Heuer Monaco worn by Steve McQueen during the filming of LeMans is coming up for sale. The reserve price is $200,000.
Only problem is, another (different) watch came up for sale in 2009, also claiming to be McQueen’s watch, and it only sold for $87,600.
I think this one’s “legit” (or as legit as the others sold as McQueen-worn Monacos) … but we have a few days for further discussion / consensus-building.
Plenty of beautiful Red, White and Blue on this vintage Heuer “McQueen” Monaco.

Today’s vintage Heuer photo comes to us from Nic Green, owner / operator of HeuerBoy.com. Nic calls this photo “Monaco Road” or “The A8” (the motorway that runs along the French Riviera into Monaco).
